The Leica Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R 1:2.8/100 mm is regarded by experts and collectors as one of the best macro lenses ever designed for the 35 mm format. It was launched on the market in 1987 and set new standards for optical imaging performance across the entire focusing range. The speciality of this lens lies in its apochromatic correction. By using special types of glass with anomalous partial dispersion, colour fringing is almost completely eliminated. This results in extreme contrast performance and sharpness, which is already present at the open aperture of 2.8 across the entire image field right into the corners. The lens delivers consistently high image quality both at infinite distance and at extremely close range.
