The Leica SUMMICRON-M 50 mm f/2 in black, manufactured in 1996, is a classic standard lens for the Leica M system. The natural perspective provided by the 50 mm focal length makes it a versatile companion for reportage, street, portrait, travel and everyday photography.
The tried-and-tested optical design, comprising six elements in four groups, delivers excellent sharpness, clear contrast and neutral colour reproduction. Even at the maximum aperture of f/2, the lens renders the main subject with precision, combining this with a pleasantly smooth background blur. When stopped down further, micro-contrast reproduction improves across the entire image field.
The f/2 maximum aperture allows for flexible shooting in low-light conditions whilst also offering creative freedom with selective focus. The compact metal mount, precise manual focusing and the integrated, extendable lens hood emphasise the classic Leica character and make the lens a discreet companion for analogue and digital Leica M cameras.
