Group photos, landscape and architecture shots: Whenever something more needs to be in the picture, the Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 1:3.5-4.5/16-35 ASPH. is a universally applicable wide-angle lens that extends the horizon of the existing SL-Vario portfolio to include the wide-angle range with its focal length range of 16-35 mm.
In addition to the excellent imaging performance typical of Leica over the entire focal length range, the high-performance lens offers an autofocus that is as fast as it is quiet. A single, very light individual lens element is moved for focussing. With the help of the specially developed motor concept, consisting of a stepper motor and a linear guide, it is possible to focus very quickly, quietly and precisely, while the overall length of the lens remains unchanged.
The newly developed optical design of the Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 1:3.5-4.5/16-35 ASPH. consists of a total of 18 lenses in 12 groups. Two aspherical lenses are used to correct monochromatic aberrations and three lenses made of glass with anomalous partial dispersion to correct chromatic aberrations.
