The Leica PA-CURTAGON-R 35 mm f/4, manufactured in 1978, is a rare specialised lens for the Leica R and Leicaflex systems and was developed for perspective correction in 35 mm photography. As a shift lens, it allows the optical axis to be shifted, enabling converging lines to be effectively controlled, particularly in architectural, interior and still-life photography.
Manufactured by Schneider-Kreuznach, the design combines a classic 35 mm wide-angle focal length with precise mechanical adjustment and a high-quality Leica R mount. Thanks to its extended image circle, the lens is particularly well-suited to subjects where precise geometry and clean lines are paramount.
With its solid metal mount, manual focus and specialised field of application, the PA-CURTAGON-R is an interesting lens for both active analogue photographers and collectors of the Leica R system. In architectural photography in particular, it offers creative possibilities that are only achievable to a limited extent with conventional wide-angle lenses.
